I am currently in my 4th quarter here at Kaplan University. So far I have not done to bad. Some of the classes I have done better than I expected and the others not as well. My grade point average is still a 3.2 so I must be doing something right. I was always very good in English class back in school, but when it comes to writing a paper then I seem to have problems. I never had problems with plagiarism before until last quarter. I never even realized that I did it. I am repeating that course now along with this one per the KU policies on it. I am going to be optimistic. Maybe I can get a better grade than before. That is one of my goals from this learning lesson. Another is to really take my time and make sure that I do not plagiarize and put to good use our writing center. I will be sending my essays to them for review before I turn them in to make sure I never have this problem again. It really has me conscientious for my future papers.

Hi Lisa,
ReplyDeleteOne good tip to help avoid plagiarism is to take really good notes on your research. Record every bit of information you will need to cite the source, including the date you accessed the source. Review APA format for in-text citations.
Read an article once, then put it aside and write down what you remember from it and what you think about it. You can always go back and fill in direct quotes later. Also, if you copy & paste a direct quote into your notes, be sure you use the quotation marks so you will remember it is a direct quote.
Hi Lisa, 3rd quarter for me so i know how you feel about not doing so bad in your grades. I am 43 so it is a little hard for my old brain to comprehend it all. LOL!!! Good luck in this class.
ReplyDeleteGood luck to you too Colette! Hey just be proud of yourself that you made the choice to return to school. We are never to old to learn something new.
